Jake Browning Ready For NFL Opportunity With Joe Burrow Sidelined: 'Not Gonna Hide The Fact That I'm Excited'
CINCINNATI — The Bengals have a new starting quarterback as Jake Browning gets excited for his first real NFL chance. He discussed the new role with the media on Friday as Joe Burrow's 2023 season ended on Thursday night.
"It sounds weird, but it's an opportunity for me," Browning said. "So that part's exciting, obviously close with Joe, bummed to see him go down. And it doesn't take away from the fact that it sucks to have him out and he's a big part of the team, obviously. But I think you know, for me, I'm not gonna hide the fact that I'm excited for my opportunity."
Browning went 8-of-14 passing for 68 yards and one touchdown on Thursday as Cincinnati fell 34-20 to Baltimore. He posted a 45.9 ESPN QBR out of 100. For context, Burrow ranked 18th this season with a 53.5 QBR.
"Like all of this, it's an unfortunate situation for our team to be in where one of our best players hurt, but it's the reality of why you have a backup and why I prepare each week like I need to go in, so I'm excited," Browning said. "Excited for the opportunity."
