Sources: Ja'Marr Chase Expected to Play on Sunday Against Texans

The 23-year-old was a limited participant in practice this week and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The Bengals are going to be shorthanded on Sunday against the Texans. Tee Higgins and Sam Hubbard have officially been ruled out with hamstring and ankle injuries, respectively.

Fortunately for Cincinnati, Ja'Marr Chase continues to feel better and is expected to play, league sources tell All Bengals.

Chase landed hard in his back while trying to catch a pass in last week's 24-18 win over the Bills. He was the most sore he's ever been after a game on Monday morning.

He's made progress throughout the week and was able to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday and Friday.

"For me in my head I said that I'm playing," Chase said on Thursday. "It was really after my first day of treatment, got adjusted and stuff. Felt a lot better."

Chase made it clear he didn't want to play if he could only be a decoy. If he played on Sunday, he wanted to be close to his normal self.

There has been optimism around Chase's status throughout the building for most of the week. Head coach Zac Taylor didn't want to tip his hand one way or another publicly on Friday, but Chase is all set to play against the Texans.

The 23-year-old has 64 receptions for 697 yards and four touchdowns this season. He had a season-low four catches in Cincinnati's win over Buffalo. He'll likely exceed that number against the Texans, especially with Higgins out.

Joe Burrow, Chase and the rest of the Bengals are hoping to pick up their fifth-straight win of the season on Sunday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.
