Winners and Losers From Cincinnati Bengals 34-20 Loss to Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football

Cincinnati is 5-5 following the loss.
In this story:

The Bengals lost to the Ravens 34-20 on Thursday night in a game where Joe Burrow went out with a wrist injury.

Here are our winners and losers:

Winners

Jordan Battle

This was one of those games where it’s hard to look for positives, but rookie safety Jordan Battle played well on Thursday night. Battle has been behind Nick Scott on the depth chart all season, but it looks like he is finally earning those reps over the veteran. He led the team with 11 tackles and made plays all over the field.

Losers

Nick Scott

The veteran hasn’t played particularly well since he joined the team, and he might have lost his starting spot after this game.

After Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell left in free agency, the Bengals needed Scott to come in and perform, and now they will have to rely on two young safties to fill the void.

Cordell Volson

The Bengals offensive line hasn’t played well this season, and Cordell Volson seems like the weak link. Cincinnati has stuck it out with the young left guard since the drafted him, but it might be time for them to go in a different direction at left guard after this season.

With how often Burrow has taken hits, they need to seriously address the offensive line in hopes of protecting their quarterback.

Brad Robbins

The Bengals drafted Brad Robbins to replace Kevin Huber and it hasn’t panned out so far. Robbins went in to Thursday Night Football averaging 45 yards per punt, which puts him fifth from last in the NFL. Robbins punted five times against the Ravens for an average of only 43.4 yards.

They do have more pressing needs, but the Bengals need better production from Robbins. It feels unlikely that they’ll move one so quickly after using a draft pick on him, but they should evaluate their options.

Bengals Run Defense

So far this season the Bengals have struggled to stop the run. The Ravens rushed for 157 yards on Thursday night, which is a bad sign for the Bengals moving forward. They came into this game giving up the sixth most rushing yards in the league and need to find a way to improve in that area moving forward.
