Bracketology Roundup: Where Cincinnati Stands Heading Into Conference Play

UC is 10-3 and has the AAC's second-best record.

CINCINNATI — The Bearcats men's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule and won't play any more games in 2021 after Tuesday's measuring-stick game against No. 12 Houston got postponed.

Conference play is opening up all across the country so let's take a look at where Cincinnati stands with some of the country's best bracketologists. UC is currently the third-ranked AAC team in the NET rankings, behind Houston and UCF.

Jerry Palm hasn't updated his bracket since Dec. 10 but is the highest on UC of the three evaluations. He has Cincinnati as a 10 seed in the South region. Houston is a five seed in his projection and Wichita State is a 10 seed along with UC. Memphis is part of his first four out.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi is a bracketology godfather, but he doesn't see Cincinnati as a tournament (or bubble) team in his update from last week. Houston is a three-seed, and UCF is his AAC Tournament champion as a 12-seed.

The final part of our bracketology check-in comes from The Athletic's Bracket Watch led by Brian Bennett. Cincinnati is right in the middle of the other two projections as a next four out team. They are ranked as the fifth-best team left out of the tournament.

Roll all of these together along with being No. 57 in the NET ranking, and you get a firm bubble team. UC can do a lot to boost its resume in conference play over the next six weeks. They face Houston, Memphis (twice), and Wichita State in that span.

Cincinnati's next game is at Fifth Third Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The contest against Tulane is airing on ESPN+.
